if not for a loose end
I would have been there
far afield where blooms
occur only if you see them
and trees make sounds that
are the stuff of legends

loose ends that can
tighten around a neck
like a hangman's noose
choking the mind free of
its guilt, regrets and sorrows

I would have been there
if not for a loose end
just one more act of cowardice
where I allowed fear
to exceed my judgment

...just bein' Bluesy
