he stood for hours
trying to remember
what it was like
to sit comfortably
in the chair

his favorite chair,
the one near the
fireplace where
upon the mantle
her picture stared

time had taken her
as it had before,
but this time
she would not return to him

remnants of their love
now glowed in the embers
that crackled with each kiss
she had placed on his lips

warm they were, if ever dying
like the heat raised up from the fire
as the flickering of the flames receded
into the ashes of their lives

...just bein' Bluesy

'Teaser
This reminds me of a Sonnet by Shakespear. A couple that has been together for many years have a bond that is unique. Parting for them can be uniquely devastating as well.  I think your poem displays this.

Bluesy Socrateaser, Yours is a sad story we all must live with when the time comes. And I am sorry you are one also.

Let me thank you here for your reply to my poem on Richy's topic.I really appreciated  it.Many do not read all the replies on a poem other than what they wrote.I did not mean to intercept his great word game. But thank you. jo perry

oh my gosh that last verse was so perfect..

the title makes me think of their four legs combined bound together, the sum being better than its parts..

now they can sit together in the culmination of their affection

wonderful piece my friend
