A Winter's Lament

I know it's winter still
and spring isn't that far away,
but the honey bee
that stung my arm
will never see the daffodils,
Lupine, Phlox , and
Black-eyed Susan's
that it may have seen here
last year – it crossed a line,
and now lies dead, squashed,
mushed and stepped upon.

Poor thing.

Like me,
like my heart,
my soul – it failed to see
the end coming.

It died, literally.
I died,
figuratively I guess –
I still walk, talk, eat, sleep –
Zombie like,
and yes, I crave human flesh,
Hers,
she who lies beneath the very flowers
that honey-bee was seeking.

I'm sorry now.

For the honey-bee
and especially for me –
here I took a life . . .
while standing above
the one I'd love
to get back.

A bit morbid, but it worked out wonderfully even if you killed that poor little bee. I found myself looking back for much of my life until I realized I was adding only grievous harm to myself. The past is the past, however heartbreaking it may have been, but buddy, the future, even for old guys like you and I can be exciting and put a flush to your cheeks and a tune in your heart if we only seek it out.

Yeah Jerry, I've never been one to let the past overly influence the rest of my life.  It (whatever) happened or didn't and you can't change that so I always looked to the future...often screwed that up too, but hey ... grin and bear it is my motto.

Thanks for the reveiw.
