      On Such a Winter’s Night

In the footsteps of the passing storm,
like a wondrous scene from a captive
world in some cosmic paperweight,
‘endless’ hills of snow-bound shadows
shimmer in the evening moonlight
as tattered clouds dance beneath
an infinite mantle of luculent stars.
So much of Nature’s truth lies just
beyond the brief candle of our lives.
How do all our hopes, dreams, plans,
  and schemes,
in our little islands of artificial light,
appear to Winter’s grand-eternal eyes
from the vast-empty mystic realms
of time and space on such a night?

Your poem has fined-tuned, and gave power to nature to peer inside our very existence. Somehow I feel it may have found us lacking.

many thanks to both of you for commenting on this 'write' (20 in. of snow on the ground here in the 'endless' mt. valleys of old Appalachia) ...

We are Nature as we meld ourselves with each  day of our existence and all that lay within.

Hopefully, we would have respect and care for its "truth" before we pass the candle.

Splendid poetry that generates much thought.

hopefully, the primary themes that should come across in my ever-so-humble lil' "poetic scribbles" are: respect for and appreciation/stewardship of Nature; tolerance and celebration of human diversity (and that of all life forms in Gaia's biosphere); and 'universality' [the infinitely nested 'connectedness' (all is one) of everyone and everything across all (size) scales of observation in this grand-scintillating universe].

A truly endearing ideal which some humans have struggled with ever since the beginning of our existence. Others approach the 'Mother' with utter disrespect.

With respect, it has been, is, and will continue to be this way as long as there are more than one of us around.

This was magnificent my friend..

I can hardly help but include nature in almost everything I write..

Your poem made me ponder.. and think about the seasons.. spring as morning, summer as noon, fall as afternoon, and winter as evening..

Nature is at rest right now with her blankets of snow wondering when all of these menacing little bugs that crawl on her skin will just simply go away..

The hills they know not greed..

they only know modesty and all things untainted

Really enjoyed this
