time is ephemeral, not on my side
of night are closing
sometimes I look
into death's gruesome, reticent face
and wonder, oh I do wonder
have I lived long enough
temerarious though it was
I become irascible
unwilling to accept the nefariousness
of the absolute
embers as my life smolders
among the ashes
of life not so well spent
still
I shan't complain
or
endeavor to countervail yesterday's
street-level hauteur
I may have defrauded life
you know
by living this long
more times than I can remember
I stared at necrosis
across the great divide
walked away grinning
but hell, my life
is scorched and nearly burnt out
doctors are the firemen
trying to anticipate death's grip
one thing
if I have learned just one thing
through the years
accumulated lessons may be only this
we are easily friable

We are all friable and all the kings horses, men and Krazy glue won't change that.

Good one Jerry

Jerry-
Some of us are extra crispy! I find myself racing to the end of your poems to get to the punch line.

I like the thought "have I lived long enough".

I sometimes wonder about that myself. Perhaps I haven't made enough of a difference. I hope I do before I crash.

Many thoughts to ponder over in your poetry Jerry.
