Nature, taught me how to walk But someone, taught me how to carry myself Evolution gave, me the ability to talk But people, helped me find my voice People taught me I, was left But nature taught me what, was write Lying taught me how to stay But truth bestowed me to believe A blind man can teach us more about vision Than someone who can't, see life with perception My candle It burns But the wax, she is low We show you, the way You must learn to let go We are the weather of study, and class Enter our brainstorm that never will pass We are the nurturing fruit of prepare Pick it and run and it, will be shared You stand on the edge of know and ledge You are the oath and the promise, of pledge The training we gave you is leaving the station 1 plus won is now, your equation Harness your will and you are unstoppable Go take the I and the M from impossible Thank you for letting Us show you the trail
Now keep pressing forward until you pass fail

Good advice and understanding. There comes a time when the pupils have to "Let Go" and prove their worth.
In that vein here is one I wrote:
It is time to let go please ease up on your clasp and free my hand
it is time to plan the rest of my life
Please start putting yours in order so I may be free to live my own.

Love the last three lines, Richy. You dug deep and you dug well. Thought provoking words concerning your students and those who work with you. You have done your best. Now it is up to them.

A blind man can teach us more about vision
Than someone who cannot, see life with perception ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My father was blind so those couple lines speak volumes to me. There is much wisdom in your words.
Thank you for this, Richy.

I will share this with the students I work with. I hope it will help them see how important they are and thus how important their high school diploma is. I am an administrative assistant (glorified gofer)for a program designed to help students that are at high risk for dropping out... Turning 18 can be the kiss of death for their education. (for a while) Thanks for this gem of encouragement Richy!

Thanks so much jo for sharing your poem here..
You know I think as educators we can only teach them so much, part of my focus is to also bring out in them their instinctual knowledge that is pure and untaught..
believing in one’s self is the key to unlocking the vault of passion and the ability to succeed..
Yes you can only practice a skill under supervision for so long.. we teach them to be safe in a nest so that they can eventually leave and go build their own..
Even in my own roost I only have 1 birdie left at home, my son Ryan who is leaving soon to the Air Force.. then it’s going to be our turn to see what we've learned along the way and how we’re going to apply that for the rest of our own lives..
Thanks again

thanks Jerry..
yes there's nothing better than seeing them proceed and grow through the program.. and then watching their progression through the years after their graduation..
there's such a rewarding satisfaction in that that needs to bottled up and shared..

you're very welcome Lori Blue and thank you..
I'm sure one of your dear father's favorite breadths of view was the internal beauty of his sweet and loving daughter..

Believe me Lori G we all can get frustrated and feel like glorified babysitters every now and again when the students start acting up but we just can’t show it.. we have to be their rock and lead by example..
Yes we get our fair share of, at risk, students as well that are living day to day, sometimes even homeless and it just breaks your heart..
They have this one last opportunity to succeed in life, and they just need somebody that cares about them and people in general..
It’s funny how I think I learn more from my students than they will ever possibly learn from me
thanks for doing what you do.. I'm sure you impact folks more than you will ever know..
thank you very much for the kind words

in walk our raw ingredients.. we chop them up and put them in a pot of simmering opportunity and hope that in the end we have a desirable balance of flavor and sustenance..
thank you for the food for thought..
