My screen door creaked as I walked
out front

Looking for my cat like I do
every morning

A note in the sky made my eyes
turn scarlet

Toward the east where
sun
breaks day

The ink on the blue was written
in red

And it made me think of my
youngest son
Jared

I walked in the house
and my cat
followed suit

I nudged on my camera
and it opened
an eye

I pointed it toward
the blush
of the breeze

And stole
this momentary
art
of reflection

I can hear the sabers
as they rattle
in the distance

Through the palm tree
on my neighbor’s
green lawn

The drum beats are
pounding
their chests
ever louder

A red line of
blood,
has been drawn
in the sand

It’s easy to
rush
to a fight
when you’re youthful

I learned that by being
one
of six brothers

You mess
with a sibling

You mess,
with them
all

But patience will always,
be the flip side
of fear

And
mankind, is often
not, very so

This sunrise, I looked up
and read,
the new page

That sailors like my son
should all
take warning

It’s hitting me
now,
what he decided,
to do

As the days go on
we all,
must grow up

I just wish that this
damn world

Somehow,
would too
love, dad
