To live alone in the dwindling years,
Is oft a choice unmade, but pushed on thou,
Where love's bluntness cannot catch cupids spear,
Although thrown, it is sometimes disavowed.

Life's persistence unfolding happenstance,
Heaps mountains of denial in your way,
Makes you wary of a casual glance,
From the lovely, recently widowed Mae.

Your days unfold like a death-watching clock,
You do what you want, and answer to none,
No one to tell you you've worn the wrong sock,
The end of your days, it's been a long run.

Make what you want of life while you still can,
We die alone, even with friends and fans.

The widow Mae is ever the optimist and wise in her years. She may improve your view on a few things.

Spend some time with her Jerry, then return to this poetry of yours and give it a wink.

(Later this year I'll be traveling to Bastrop and may want to drop in on her myself)

Tis true you may be alone in body, but in spirit your Hovel is crowded.  You are dearly loved.
Mae can give you warmth, (and surely a smile) I will not disagree with Blusey.  I knew a Mae once, her name was Eusta B.

Don't be sad, buddy. I was just stating a fact. I'm at peace, man.
