sitting on the throne
elbow resting on my knee
left side of my face
propped up on it
this, then is
a quiet time
somehow the mind slows down
this is
a time of contemplation
my time spent living on the streets
has had unexpected educational side effects
it taught me much about fear
if you have fear they can see it in your ryes
yes, totally true
the savage streets of America
where, if you look
up into the black sky there are only black stars
it has a tendency to beat you down
but sometimes
I mean
if you come to the streets
from simply running from yourself
that's not so different
from where you're going to end up

Throne-work eh? Makes me wonder how many of your other works started this way. Not that it matters one wit...as long as you write it.
The last line made me stop and think, it threw me, I had to go back and re-read.I think I get what you meant. But I'd be delighted if you'd clarify, my friend.

I simply meant that if you are running from yourself, no matter how long you run when you stop you are still where you started. Thank you Lori for being here.

That's what I thought you meant. Thanks for letting me know I was right, I love it when that happens-especially when I got it in writing!

wawww.. you need to take a squat more often my friend haha

the beginning made me chuckle but then it got into some real substance..

i remember one day thinking of the city as a jungle.. the streets were raging rivers that you could easily die trying to cross, and that the perils around you are probably more dangerous than anything out in nature like grizzly bears, or wolf packs..

life's a b thats for sure and you have to go out every day and smash it in the face (figuratively speaking)to get what you need sot that you can have the spare time to get what you, want..

nice piece buddy.. made me rant haha

have a nice superbowl sunday

And it was a pretty damn good rant, Richy. Your ideas of city life is spectacular, maybe you could incorporate it into poetry. Thank you for stopping by.

This reminds me of parts of Chinatown in Hawaii,  by day it is filled with busy shoppers early in the morning and later business women and men and tourist frequenting the restaurants and walking the streets and as the evening progresses the whole scene changes in Chinatown, I mean the thugs, the heavy drinkers, the wino's the prostitutes the druggies come out in force...James
