I’m an old guy
each day my physical façade
becomes more used
by the wear and tear of living
another day
although my ills
and physical problems
causes me to walk more slowly
makes me look more intensely where I walk
ahhh . . .
but when I’m inside The Hovel
my outward appearances
are muted
as I turn my thoughts
to reveal the youth which still resides
in my mind
so I write
my poems which will someday
be performed in open mike
by the youth of both sexes
my imagination comes alive again
with the crisp,
dynamic vocalized young voices
these words of mine
written by me, the old guy
will somehow be smiling
at the healthy and firm bodies
reciting my words
giving them the insight
kept dormant all these long years

the young
give me life
with my words

You are much younger than you might think, Poet. And yes, I can hear the words of younger voices saying, one to the other, "I wish I could have written this one!"

Ah, Karilea, thank you for reading and speaking your peace on my poem today. It is good to see you over here again. Thank you again.

Very beautiful, dear Jerry. I love this thought of your poetry reaching the young generation as a gift of your life's work. Yes, they will love your words and find many a life lesson, all wrapped in the beauty of your art on a wide range of topics.

(I am also slowing down, being more cautious, but just like you say, the heart's visions are not affected by passing time!)

You are more prolific in writing than many younger people. Keep on doing what you love to do, you do it well!

Margherita, you always comment in such a way that warms my weary old heart. I thank you for that. I suppose all poets, or at least the serious ones, want to be remembered and read by future generations. I do and I am not ashamed of that wish.

That's a very legitimate wish, dear Jerry, after all our poems are messengers of our hearts and they are meant to be shared and read. Poems are like the scent of flowers, they contribute to enrich our lives and the lives of our fellow travelers on this our blue planet, raising the awareness of the wonder and the beauty of our existence, in midst of all the struggles we experience and all its miseries and mysteries yet unveiled. You have reason to be proud, actually.

Truly written, Jerry )
Your mental age has nothing to do with the calendar!

Recently I played with one test detecting the "inner" age: http://www.mbti123.com/mental/en/
It was funny )

Thank you very much Gale, I agree with you concerning age. I'll check out the test a little later.

I know young people that are decrepit in spirit and older ones that live on eternally in youthful spirit.
and that's all that matters, when the heart is joyful and alive
as are you

Hear you loud and clear Emma. I'm one of the older ones who have the spirit of youth flowing within me. It is the only way to go. Thank you sincerely for you being here.
