JOY SPRINGS ETERNAL
17 January 2014

http://soundcloud.com/diana-van-den-berg-2/joy-springs-eternal

It’s there . . .
a glow,
a taste,
a warmth,
the pretty wasp
who paused a moment on my page,
a whisper,
the scent of life,
the butterfly
who fluttered his or her arty colours by,
the breeze that tickles
slim blades of grass
and laughs the leaves
and cossets me
with sweet caress.
It’s there
in skies translucent-blue and pure.

It was there
when I first took breath,
and when I child-pondered
on my favourite branch,
and raced on tricycle
and danced with the wind.

It was there with friends
on hot sandy beaches
and cool, cool waters, blue and white;
in mountain horse-rides
in midday heat
of winter sun.

It is there
in that mousebird
alighted, delighted
on the tree
in front of me
here
in my back garden;

in the graceful ballerina arms
of neighbouring palms, prancing
just for me;

in avian tweets and twitters, trills and chirps
balm for my hearing;

it uplifts and fills and spreads and sings.

It was there
or was it here?
when I first began;
this glorious joy of Nature’s bounty
seeps deep into my thirsty being;

but is too much for me alone
and overflows, so
please take as much
as you desire,
for a never-ending flow
erupts in me
wherever I go.

Yes it does, Diana. Yes, I'll take a bit of that joy.

  love the imagery.  I remember a kid racing on his tricycle like that... and wow, even the feeling.  If only a rare and random memory, it leaves me to question the certainty of the depression I have defined my life by.  Even in times of peace, like now, what is it that keeps me from finding that joy?  Never even realized I could till you just reminded I once did, way back when.  Thank you.

Such a beauty.I love every bit of it. I joined your cloud site so I could receive you in my e-mail.

On "Your Cloud",Yes you will have a special one I am sure so you can forever enjoy the scenes you write about so beautifully that I want to be there also.I will leave this world before you, so will reserve a special cloud near by so I can peek over the edge and see you there ever writing, every loving your piece of earth. Wishing you the best~~~martyjo

Michael, I am thrilled out of my mind that I reminded you that you felt joy as a child!  Forgive me, but I never doubted, don’t now and won’t, that you will find joy still!  Perhaps if you keep thinking back and uncovering other such joys, that you had forgotten for years, they will eventually seep into your current life.  In fact, I believe it has already started as shows shining in your recent poems.

Oh, how lovely, Martyjo, that you have registered on SoundCloud!  Thank you.  Thank you, also for enjoying this poem.  You won’t necessarily leave this world before me, and if I do, indeed, leave it before you, I will reserve a cloud for you right next to me.  Giggles at you peeking over the edge of your cloud watching me writing and loving my piece of earth – but I won’t be writing all the time because we will then have time to chat uninterrupted by my need to keep on working!  Ooh, what a luxury that will be!  Beeeg smiles.

To be so joyously attuned, becoming all that surrounds you in a single thought.

How wonderful you write of it.

Sometimes it happens much too quickly and sometimes not at all.

For some like yourself, my wish is for it to be everlasting.

Thank you, Bluesy, for your delightful response and good wishes.

It IS everlasting for me - both the experience and the writing.  That is not to say that I don't experience intense sorrow/sadness/melancholy/nostalgia, frustration, anger and all sorts of other emotions, but my joy cannot be suppressed for long.  It bursts out through the cracks of all sorts of other emotions.

From an age far too young to be able to express it, I have always revelled in the beauty and excitement of Nature.  For example, when I am in a forest, I want to imbibe every beauty of every single tree (branches, leaves, tree-shape, birds that are in it, bark, etc, etc, etc) – and I always get the feeling that there are simply too many trees for me to be able to do that.  If I did, I’d still be in the first forest I was ever in, many decades ago!

I just wish that everybody could see what I see.

It's so beautifully written that just can't help transmitting me your joy, Owl!
So you had a tricycle?

you evoke images and nuances in places that have long ago left many out there.
I believe a dose of your delightful poetry
could stir the reminder in the hardest of hearts

Oh, my. I think we have a little masterpiece here. Joy spills out onto the page from a child mind disguised as an adult. What a pleasurable read this, and what a great way to begin the day
Thank you, great poetess, for this delight
