Number Eight

Why do we call number one number one
And number two number two?
Why didn't we call number two number one

And number one number two?
And what about three, four, five and six?
And O, heavens to God,
Don't even THINK about the number SEVEN.

BTW, I'm number eight.

In replying to your question, one might say that there would be no difference at all what each reference was called, as long as it was universally understood.

The use of numerical sequences sounds different in many languages and are represented by varying characters which gives the impression of great difference, especially when compared to a system familiar in one's own culture. It occurred to me that these differences are similar to what you present in your fine poetry.

It's different than the 'rose by any other name is still a rose' concept, in that a rose is a tangible object where a numerical reference of course, is not.

My apologies for the lengthy and somewhat redundant response, but you're at fault. Your writing is what set me in motion.
