my past never lets me go
they are with me night and day
most of them are malicious memories
can’t rid myself of them
still they aren’t as numerous as before
I forgave everybody
First Baptist Church stands out
junior director of the Sunday Night choir
yeah me
remember clusters of birds under the large oak
until crows ran them off
Charles and I had a hideout
we let Libby join us if she would show us things
she did
I had long-distance dreams
mostly about getting out of there
I recall winter
ice storms shut the little town down
hardly anyone outside
unless they just had to be
I thought of Taylor, Arkansas
as a ghost town in those frigid days
no one on the streets
except sometimes Libby would walk by the house
turning her head toward where
I had my face pressed against the ice-covered pane
I would quietly slip out of the house
make it to the hideout
Libby would appear a little later

it is sometimes unfortunate ... that "we can't go home again" ...

The 'past' is, of course, irrevocable; the 'future' powerless to be born ...
we have only the malleable 'now' of infinite potential in which to paint
the world in bright-delicious colors ...

You are, of course, correct in your summation, Bruce. Now is all that we have in reality.

Appreciate your thoughts on my poems Yann, and thank you for being here.

Ahhh . . . Yes indeed, when we have lived live and reach the age I am there is many such remembrances. Too bad a lot of them are not so good. I don't spend much time on those. Thank you so much for being here.
