tethered to the twisting swings
of life
no matter the age
thirteen is older than you think these days
she could be reading Kafka
trying to absorb
the philosophy of his words
she is alone
swinging back and forth
in a world
she understands less even than Kafka
she wears a diaphragm
takes birth control pills
makes her sex partners wear condoms
even then she usually does it another way
instead of allowing them into her portal
her rationale?
I'll not bring a child into this world
as long as there are liars
in Congress

the world has reached the stage
where it is devouring itself
and little thirteen-year-old girls
everyone is on their own
set of swings
back and forth through pitfalls of
depravity’s reaction

Perhaps it is the lack of hope and vision that is the bleakest darkness.
Lies in Congress are, of course, only a symptom.

bleak thoughts, done well, jarring me out of my comfort zone right now.
Hard hitting, and real good poetry

Lack of hope and vision is certainly two good reasons that life has become difficult for some, Krawdad. Thank you for being here.

hi jerry, it is a fine and deep analyse, and i Would not advise a kaffa reading to a thirteen Years old, it could have depressive efects because of darkness, solitude and impossibility to merge in society, i read it when i was 18 and it had great impulse on my spiritual and emotional life...
tHanks for the beautiful and accurate poem

have a fine Holiday

I couldn't agree more concerning Kafka, Yann. Thank you for you excellent comments.

Ah, but you said much without even trying, Lori, and I thank you for that.
