.

This town is a cigarette and blue jeans.
Sometimes overalls.
Come Spring it only wants to tip its brim
down over tired eyes, as softening ice
swallows forgotten fishing shantys.
The boats own Summer, of course: lakes
all winking silver and bikinis.
Ice cream shops, flags, gaudy parades.
Still redneck in the corners,  though --
store entries flecked with chew.  Fall
is a burnt - leaf riot of crimson,  orange.
And winter?
One big blue exhaust trail,
along the slotted track of snowmobiles.

Heh.Heh Rednecks are people too. I so loved this, Amaryllis, it reminded me so much of my hometown. You described Small Town, Michigan to a T.

Such a creative write, dear Amaryllis. Much enjoyed it.
