          Wintry Pathos

On this grey November day
of angry clouds and leaden sky
with a frigid wind that sighs
and cries a sad, lonely lament,
through sullen bare-bone trees
answered by the black raven's,
bleak refrain to Autumn passing.
Would that we were as the Holly
and could laugh at Winter’s worst
on this bitterest day that ever blew
all color, calm, and hope away to
leave the empty heart and forlorn
spirit bereft of joy and Spring.

Soulful bit of conceptional imagery, Bruce. I'm there. Hearing the wind howl through the unprotected trees. Winter has begun.--Jerry
