The hills are rolling, rolling,
and forces on that gypsy
a sway and tilt, an upheaval,
she’d rather not endure.

Tied firmly as she is
to the seat of mortal life
she’s moving but not dancing
from morn until midnight.

And then there are the hours
when mind escapes the sway
and she wonders if she cries
sad or happy tears.

The hills are rolling, rolling,
and that gypsy gal is moving
until finally all is still
and she sleeps the sleep
of the well and truly dead!

The imagery is powerful.
I can see her life on the road
or the road of life
its turns.
Great piece!

Thank you, Gale.  So many turns in the road of life - and one never gets where one is wanting to go!

Loved this!  Have to admit my first thought upon seeing the title was

Rolling, rolling, rolling, keep those wagons rolling . . . Rawhide!!!  LOL

enjoyed, my friend....

Thanks, yann.  I appreciate the read and your comment.

And J!     Wish I could say I didn't know where your quote was coming from because that would make me half my age or thereabouts.  Yes, keep the wagons rolling!  Got no option really in the real world.

The tears of the happy intermingle with the tears of the sad...  they are the tears of the living, and they both have their place.  The closer one gets to the sleep of the dead, the more they learn to appreciate both I think.  Well written piece.
