Sitting in my forest where leaves are changing
Hear songs floating in the air of the spirits around me
The coarseness of the bark as I lean on my tree
Reminds me of the life that is just beyond
I continue to sit and wait knowing there is something to come
A visitor afraid of me as I of him Just a knowing just a feeling
But wait I must as the sun starts to descend I fear not for the spirits protect me
Far away I feel eyes watching I smile knowing its almost time to slowly see
What the wings of tide have brought to me
There is a rustle amongst the trees and sticks as the eyes get closer
Intense in their stare as if seeing through me
I close my eyes not in fear but to show trust beckoning to see
Once again what the winds of tide have brought to me
I feel a nudge upon my hand and still with eyes closed
Run my fingers over this friend not foe
Even in my fingertips I feel the different worlds we come from yet so the same
When I open my eyes and slowing gaze upon my new friend I inhale once upon such a sight
For the power of the dragon has come to me this night
He tilts his head and puts his eyes close so I can see inside
All fear gone as I gaze upon the beauty and honor of it soul
No words yet sitting in silence of so much yet to be told
As I sit with the bark against my back
In my forest of falling leaves
Spirits sing now not just to me

WOW, Connie!  They say things come in threes!  But of all three of your poems I have read this morning, this is my favourite.  I am a forest person.  My house is in an indigenous forest garden.  This poem, except for the fear on my side, could so easily be about me meeting an animal for the first time.  I'm not so good with people, but I bond so very closely with animals even at first sight.  So-called vicious dogs don't bite me.  Either I taste bad or they know I adore them all.  Sorry, I am rambling and getting away from what you meant - but not from my own personalised interpretation.  Oops, sorry for twisting it.  As you meant it, is very, very beautiful indeed, too.
