I pass people on the sidewalk
as I walk Zoe
among the clutter of city sounds
the pealing of church bells
I usually nod
say hello and move on down the line
some familiar faces
some I’ve n’er seen before
ahhh . . .
they have no idea
these people that I meet
how naked their faces are
how their eyes
meeting mine tell me much
I feel like a peeping tom
to have penetrated their poorly hidden masquerade
beyond those eyes
secrets are hushed in their hiding places
I wonder
oh how I wonder
can they
in passing me on that sidewalk
know my secrets
as well

Hello Lori, thank you for being here. You raise a good point about whose eyes can hold your attention, but not others.

Cool!  Would really enjoy walking past you and Zoe, my friend, just so a few feet further on I could stop, turn and ask ... Now, Jerry, what do you think you know?,  hee, hee, hee.

Now that's eerie.  I have always felt like I perceive too much in others... so much more than I even would want to see.  Never thought about anyone else having those "all-seeing" eyes.  Now I have to do a quick inventory of all my dirty little secrets... whew!  Good thing I don't have any.

Right, Michael. I'm the same way. No dirty little secrets are to be found in my past. I don't even want to talk about the huge secrets.

I'd wager money that some do, Ida. Thank you so much for always being here.
