Lily Among The Thorns (All The Love)
By: Noah Hibiscus Eaton
10/29/13

A good friend had told me,
nearly four years ago,
“Your first teacher is your own heart.”
I’ve learned the hard way,
it’s easy to be brave from a distance,
but as I loom closer,
I can’t tell the voices in my head apart…

But as my own light goes out,
it’s rekindled by a spark,
and I appreciatively stop to think,
of all who love me in high regard…

All the love that changed me,
all the love that tripped me head over heels,
all the love that reminds me,
how simple it is just to truly feel.
All the love I settled,
all the love I never got over,
all the love that can grace a mundane day,
like the scent of white sweet clover,
and the more I learn all about love,
I fall in love with you all over again…

Well my soul would have no rainbow,
if I didn’t shed my share of tears,
Because beneath this makeup,
I’m still just another sibling,
still wishing for this world,
even after all these years.

And when I used to feel like a late bloomer,
and couldn’t let the guilt go,
a friend told me something,
that chilled me to the bone.

“You’re just like a lily,
among the thorns,
It’s such a struggle to bloom,
but now you’re rearing your lovely head lightward…”

All the love that changed me,
all the love that tripped me head over heels,
all the love that reminds me,
how simple it is just to truly feel.
All the love I settled,
all the love I never got over,
all the love that can grace a mundane day,
like the scent of white sweet clover,
and the more I learn all about love,
I fall in love with you all over again…

Like a breeze across a field of golden amaranth,
or an opaline mist that saturates the earth with due,
my heart is further opened,
and I owe it all to you…
.
.
.
.
.
All the love that radiates,
like sunflowers on a sunny day,
the kind that breaks you open,
and takes all your breath away…

…all the love that dares,
to be the first to extend a hand,
that dares to help you find your way,
that dares you to feel you’ve done your best,
and the more I learn all about love,
I fall in love with you all over again…

Wonderful, dear Noah. Picture and words, deeply touching and beautiful.

Glad to see you here.
