Epilogue

The epilogue appears,
I count the wasted years;
The dryness in my mouth ever unquenched.
As I watch emotion falter,
Laying hope upon the altar,
But find no grace to leave these fists unclenched.

I wish for peaceful death.
Why do I waste the breath?
My place is sleeping next 'this broken mirror.
For destiny untold
Will never change what truths I hold—
Needs placed upon this soul, embraced by furor.

I sing the rhapsody
Of life so completely
Empty of true emotional incursion.
Chalk it up to bitter trust,
The very foundations of dust...
Fingers sifting, searching a better version.

Yet those lips of gossamer
Approach me in this shade of her,
Stir all reality to thoughts unbidden.
Where I close my eyes to dream
Of whispers lost beneath a scream,
While fallacy betrays all I've kept hidden.

Legacy of a clown:
Tired eyes, a quiet frown
Carried through silence in the name of pain.
Where her eyes fall to me,
Though I'm sure they still can't see
The regret wrapped around me like a chain.

Unforgiveness turning bad
Any and everything had,
As Time yet proves to be the worst of masters.
Clear pain shown in those eyes,
With all my truths still seen as lies;
The icing on the mother of disasters.

This is a sad poem. Forgive her for wearing her pain like a shield.

Well, as sad as these poems you write, you are very definitely leaving a legacy behind, Michael. I have been one of the lucky ones, for although I shared my mounting pain and regret over the years, I found how to clean the slate, the last cleansing of it commenced about a week ago.
