   Compass Rose of the Spirit

Past the last lingering shadows
of a dying Autumn sunset, when
all the rainbow leaves have fallen
and ten-thousand empty branches
dance a chill wind that plays the
lonely heart-strings in deep,
strange chords of bitter refrains
to a mind now bent upon Winter;
there is no hiding place where
the  somber clouds of November
  cannot enter;
and yet you remain my North, South,
  East, and West …
my compass rose of the spirit
upon which I shall launch my heart
beyond all fear into any darkness.

I'll second what JPat wrote,and add my own
"terrific" perception of the seasonal mood

Thanks so much to each and all of you!

Sometimes I feel it is the penultimate curse to be
a poet, dreamer, and such an 'incurable Romantic' ...
