Loneliness is a state of mind,
It is said loud and shrill,
But those who suffer this disease,
Can't cure it with a pill.

Those who are lonely sit and cry,
Singing the same sad song,
Reading poetry into the night,
Wishing they still belonged.

No pill will cure the ills of the lonely heart. This is sad to read, not easy to soothe that ache, but the poetry lets it do so somehow sometimes.

Yes indeed, Emma, poetry lets the lid off and gives a measure of relief. Thanls for being here.

That last part brings memories which then were sad, but now make slightly smile. However I think we all experience loneliness time and again, and it's something that few can explain as good as this.

Yes, I fear you are right, Jerry, the healing power isn't in the pills. It's in the awareness of being loved, even when we feel lonely ... it's the longing, the deep yearning, for what we think we have lost, that hurts so much.

Touching, really

you always manage to get to the nitty gritty
of a thing when you write Jerry. You make me wince, cry, laugh, stutter and blush.  But I never ever yawn, that's for sure. And your poems always remind me I'm not alone.
