Entropy:  a thermodynamic quantity representing the amount of energy, in a system, that is no longer available for doing mechanical work.  (Measure of unsalvageable waste).

Entropy

Eyes open to a vacant stare,
You're not sure that you're even there.
The sight is dim, and the brain fails
To process what this view entails.
You stand up, or you think you do;
But pause a sec, to think it through.
The moment past you, unaware;
Eyes open to a vacant stare...

For the truth hurts, you have been told
Through sordid lies, clever and cold;
Till all thought fades, as life grows chill,
Watching it from the windowsill.
You never went outside to play,
'Not sure you'd even know the way.
So no, your dreams are not that bold,
For the truth hurts, you have been told.

Though never spoken of aloud,
You see the measure, high and proud.
That treasure hunt some hold as theme,
But squandered time one can't redeem.
Where even functionality
Is lost to mediocrity
That wraps around you like a shroud,
Though never spoken of aloud.

And so you sit, and so you sigh,
Lacking the energy to die.
The representation of waste—
A pawn the gods errantly placed.
The game over, the board used up,
You raise to lip that empty cup;
Drink to your fill one lifelong lie...
And so you sit, and so you sigh.

Sigh!  Sadly I can relate to this.  Well penned as usual, Michael!

The deep despair here is overwhelming, Michael. I guess feeling a poem is what makes it stand out.

I'm not real happy about how well I can relate to this poem, it suprised me. Thank you for the definition.

Dark poetry consumes me. I have had a few years writing dark, but never as well as you. You reach into the readers own psyche and uncover hidden and mostly forgotten things best not remembered. This is one of your best. Hell, every poem you write is one of your best.
