She looked from across the street
with her eyes on the sunset
whether it be through the fall
of a another mans small bright future
or a stare that folded under the warm template of the season

Her curls used to bring a sudden shadow to the trees
to the bellow of the plains
that fell below the midwest stars

So she wore her weary heart on her sleeve
like her mother used to as a young child.

But she trusted the rise of her fathers gasp
that he used to let out
when he touched her body in the comfort
of the small lines of her waist
as he used to hug her
kissing her forehead
each and every day

She was rustic
without a canyons soft shared, dry cement
under the peel of her skin
As the street fell under her breath
her father safely tucked away at her hearts vest.
