stunning and enchanting
striking and magnificent
such are daydreams
growing moldy in wretchedness
in all its ornamental mania
come on
hide your blemishes
make of yourself the perfect lie

then come the wicked ones
headlines in the newspaper and magazines
Look Maude, you won't believe what they're doing now
aww, but we need the headlines
to glamorize the beautiful people we are

we want to put everything and everybody
in their own cute little boxes
stick them front and center
so they will worship us
as intimately as we do each other

that's what we want
isn't that the way to label us, the beautiful people
as she stands in front of the mirror sans makeup
screaming so shrilly
the glass smashes to smithereens

Now that is just plain creepy how did you know I can't take my make up off in front of a mirror? Ha! This really says it all about the billions worth of emphasis we put on beauty in this country. Girls as young as 16 going under the plastic surgeons knife for breast agumentation.......???
Liked this.

Yep. That is bad enough, but now I see that children as young as nine years old want their gender changed. THAT'S creepy in my opinion. They are children.

too many knives snipping cutting and tugging at the real spirit of who we are.
tempting to take off a few years off an aging face, but it won't erase other than
the superficial, and mabe we are supposed to look like LIFE lived afterall. I don't know what do I know, I'm not a celebrity and don't need to maintain that glamour for a camera

You are so right, Emma. The snipping and cutting is completely out of hand. They are talking head transplants now for the disfigured, but I can see in the future where someone just doesn't like their face and had it done.

You touched on a completely eerie aspect of humanity here, Jer.  So much focus on what we think others will think of us... when in truth, most are just as worried about what you might be thinking of them.  I doubt many people ever see the truth in the mirror, and for those that do, often the shattered mirror holds that image better.  Intriguing piece.
