         Beautiful Night

Oh beautiful night
of eternal star-bound sky
limpid moon, and dancing
  shadows,
just past the crimson Summer
  sunset;
here, along this crystal lake
and deep-forest edge
of the vanishing wilderness
were penultimate peace,
perfect serenity, and absolute
freedom exist for all
yet belong to no one,
beyond true and endless love
for what could men hunger?
