Relief

*   *   *

These hot restless afternoon hours
boost my thirst for calmness.
Yet my breath is out of rhythm
as I try hard to wrap myself
into a cape of serenity.

Anxiety accumulates within my chest
just as dark clouds gather in the sky.
Suspended between a desire to escape
and the more logic need to be grounded,
I still feel the inner turmoil growing.

A sudden lightning and the thunder
exploding almost instantaneously
make me jump and the fragile
safety bubble I was hiding in bursts
exposing myself to the moment.

Windows transform into drums
as immense raindrops race down.
I let this rhythmic tune enter my cells.
I close my eyes and find myself
standing under a giant waterfall.

For a long long while I am
like all the plants that absorb
the blessed water and allow
every particle of dust
to be washed off.

My breath is deeper and calmer
and I feel how anxiety dissolves
just as the skies clear up again.
I realize that my towers of turmoil
are made of imaginary substance.

I am healed by the power of Nature.
Gently I surrender to my true essence.

Margherita- your openess to the Universe and the wisdom that it brings is joyously obvious in all your poetry. This piece is especially revealing about the connectedness of it all. Very much appreciated!

Using natures little outbursts to get inside it and bring it into your own world and fantasizes is the absolute correct and fantastic way to beat the shivers and the fear . . .

*smile*

I don't think it ever occurred to me that you might have days when you feel out of sorts...

You're so...serene.

Love you, Margherita!

Sure wish we would get some of that "relief" Margherita. It is hot and muggy and I feel like doing exactly nothing. Maybe I should follow your example and at least get a nice poem out of it.

Dear Karen, thank you from my heart for your loving comment. Oh, is there anybody really in this world who can be always serene? Maybe some Monk or some Zen Master, but I think in this world of duality no one escapes totally a touch of darkness every now and then.   I am an essentially melancholic person, but I react and I do know deep inside that life is a wonderful gift. Love you too!

Dear Ida, yes do that for the joy of all of us! Heat can be quite a challenge for our activities no doubt, relaxation is not a bad idea though and creativity can still flow ... Thank you so much for your loving comment.

Hugs to both.

You always remind of the natural rhythms
within when we are open to Love and Life.

Wonderful piece!  Mother Nature truly has a way of calming one, doesn't she my friend.  We take so much of her for granted now-a-days, yet she still appeases the soul when we need it.
