And as the truth simmers beneath the surface
its wish to be free pounds on the door
and screams can be heard echoing
down the corridors of many years.

“Let me out, let me out” but the guard turns away
and saunters away from the agony
to finally stand buttoned up
at the one and only escape route.

There’s a need to shoot truth and watch it bleed
out into the fullness of life
but the guard ponders again, and again,
what good the truth will achieve.

Of course it is known truth sets you free
but in turn it can cage the innocent
and bring down shame and uncertainty
on perceptions previously formed.

But the truth screams, the guard can’t sleep,
And the pondering just goes on and on!

Ahhh . . . Truth! I am just finishing a book written by Roman Frister, it's name is The Cap, and it is about one mans ordeal with the holocaust. Within its pages truth is mostly something desired, but never quite deserved. I have always prided myself in saying I always speak the truth, but of course I don't always speak the truth. No one does. I speak the truth much more than I skirt it, and maybe that is enough. Your poem set me to my own pondering, Helen, and that is a good thing.

Favorite line:

"
There’s a need to shoot truth and watch it bleed"

And the context surrounding that line is so filled with an angsty contemplative tone that I hated to quote it alone. *hugs*

There is a certain school of thought in the psychological area which considers allowing those in great emotional pain of repression and denial to just "let it be" if they are living lives not harmful to themselves and others...myself? *smile* I'll strive for the
self-actualization of individuation.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that you are among my favorite writers here at Pip.

Very much enjoyed.

Thank you, Jerry.  I mostly try to live and speak my truth but it's hard when you know the truth about another and must keep quiet for the sake of others.

Karen - Thank you!  To be considered as one of your "favourites" is indeed an honour.  I just really ramble, you know, but thanks again.

A thought-provoking poem, Helen )
To tell the truth you must know it or at least guess about it.
I would like to know.

Hi Gale - It's because I want to know things that I do know but these days I'm not too bothered about the knowing.  Better sometimes to remain in ignorance.  Thanks for the read.
