thought process striped naked
by clouds of past deeds
try in hopelessness to recover
within the peaks and foothills
of dark lust and contented sin
the secret writhes and squirms
has a bottomless, midnight black heart
with a cadence of terror all its own
refusing daylight's endless illusion
you lie amid sweaty, glistening horror
lick your lips in utter panic
bringing up images from so long ago
like a long line of disenchantment
and as you pray for the dawn to rescue you
you wonder . . .
what in the world was I thinking

GAWD YES!!  Many's the time. But many's, also, the one I'd relive in a minute!!

Ain't that the truth, J. I believe I probably would relive it again if I had the chance.

Good one, Jerry.  And then we come to know that we plain and simply weren't thinking at all.

Oh how true Jerry! I know for me when "I wasn't thinking" I was FEELING instead.  Following my darned heart instead of my head.  Seems like I'm addicted to love.

Love's addiction can be wonderful and it can be fatal, Lori, hardly anything in between. Thanks for your input today.

This is one of your most powerful poems, dear Jerry. You certainly described those nocturnal visions/visits of past deeds in a masterful way.

When we are stupefied when remembering certain things, it's already some kind of redemption.

Thank you so much, Margherita, for your kind words. Sometimes the demons of the past just attack without mercy. Again, your presence here is much appreciated.

Yep, being able to forget is a blessing at times, beaniebaby, but there are those things we can never forget. Thank you for being here.
