I swept through your offerings
at the height of the harvest
in abundant descension
all had surrounded me,
the scarlets were carolling
at a butterfly's cadence
shrouding the jogger's trail
i had almost lost sight of them,
if not for the renegade
the one that had atrophied
its colors anemic
from last season's collection,
though somehow it lingered, somehow it
preservered, yet it was homeless
many moons from its mother tree.

Perhaps it found a home?  Perhaps?

Enjoyed this little stroll of yours with Mother Nature.

How incredibly captivating, dear EmmaRose. Persevering can be painful, until someone takes notice ... love your inspiration.

I love this, EmmaRose.  It is beautiful and so captivating.  I love fall and I love these two lines in particular ~

I am almost sure I commented on this, but I don't see my name on any of the comments, so . . . maybe not. Taking what you can at the height of the offering is a splendid way to come out ahead. I particularly liked the face that one lone butterfly survived looking haggard and homeless. Beautiful!

This is so beautifully EmmaRose, and thank goodness for that last renegade leaf - though, secretly, I know that you wouldn't have lost sight of all that beauty, being EmmaRose!  I drank every word of this in, with all my senses and then some.  I don't think you even know how to write a mediocre poem.  Every one of yours is a masterpiece.
