I am at the hair salon today.
As I sat, waiting for my turn,
I looked around and witnessed
the beauty of women in their natural state of color,
telling the stylist of the change
they needed to feel beautiful.
Tears fell from my eyes
when I whispered to myself,
but you are beautiful
if only you had the innocent eyes of your youth, to see the truth
of the beauty you hold
when others behold,
You.

Yes. Absolutely yes. We are a people bent on looking at beauty with covetous eyes. I see the models, rail-thin, looking like cadavers, some of them and I want to scream, eat! for gods sake, eat! The slick magazines tell young girls how they must look and they grow up with major complexes because, come on, not all look like they want them to look. I just about got carried away here. I'll hush.

So very true, Edn a. If only people could appreciate what they have while they have it.

OMG what a powerful statement!  We all could stand to have those society-colored-tints removed from our eyes, couldn't we?  Well done, Egirl.

So good to read you again, dear Ebonygirl, and what you convey here is all the more important as now even teenagers think they need to look different to be appreciated by others. Nature is so generous and gives us all our own characteristics, and yet so many girls and ladies want to look like somebody else.

I am happy with my white hair now ... come to think of it I should change my picture on here

Great, thought provoking poem (though of course it may go against the interests of hairdressers, but they could create other services to enhance natural beauty).

Have a great day.
