Upon Mermaid Island / Secret Locations

"A remote location upon the Pacific Ocean somewhere between Hawaii and Hong Kong."

In less than an hour
I would arrive at my destination
far across the sea
where my precious mermaid
would be waiting for me.
I was on the sloop Rendezvous
sailing with a skeleton crew
and only a few of us knew
of the secret location
and the presence of mermaids
that dwelled upon and around
this place called Mermaid Island.

When you are close you feel like
you are far away,  when you are
far away you might be very close;
then before you in the water a mermaid appears
and then another and another and as you
take in the mermaids frolicing in the water
you look again and the island is in sight,
luring you to reach out and embrace it,
blowing in the trade wind breeze
a huge forest of coconut trees
and stately banyon trees reaching
high upon high into the island sky
offering their massive branches as
protection from the rain and the
heat of the noonday sun.

You may have heard stories or watched movies
featuring mermaids in the story line but
these mermaids were of a different sort,
upon this magic island they could be either
a mermaid or a woman of their choosing.
The transformation would take place as they
swam in the island lagoon.  They would enter
as a mermaid and exit as a woman; a beautiful
woman, an extremely desirable woman and that
was when the fun would begin.

Yes just before the sun would set more fun would
begin as all the island inhabitants would enjoy
the pleasure of a mermaid's luau with Kilua pig,
barbeque chicken, all sorts of fresh seafood,
goodies made from coconuts, mangoes, breadfruits,
avocado's and fresh strawberries, the selections
seemed endless and the tastes were exotic and
delicious.

At sunset the torches would be lit and the tahitian
dancing would begin; then comes the real fun
as the women choose the man they want to share
and evening of romance as later in the evening they
will retire to their huts and perform a private
dance.

Later that night the one that has chosen me
takes me to the magic lagoon to share a midnight
swim, together we enter in and for the first time
I grow a tail,  I live in the moment, swimming as
I have never swam before in want of her laugh
her smile and so much more.

"I won't tell you exactly where, but I will provide
a few more clues to the islands direction; on second
thought I won't, for my sake and their sake it will
remain a secret location."

You know, for me, Hawaii is a kind of paradise in and of itself, but, then, with your storytelling, it could be storytelling or it could be truth, hmmmm, you take that paradise and move it on up to another whole new creative realm.  Enjoyed!

What a delightful read, James!  I feel as though I've been on a mini vacation myself now. Wonderfully visual, very much enjoyed.

Best wishes,
/Kit
