The Old Cafe

I passed the old stone house

and I saw your truck parked there

Since the day had been a hot one

I decided I could stand a beer

As I walked in I strained to focus

The place was so dimly lit

Being early in the evening

I had my choice of where to sit

In a moment my eyes adjusted

There you were standing at the bar

I wondered what the hell was I thinking

I walked out and  back to my car

No need to dredge up old memories

Small talk...not our claim to fame

Though we parted so far from enemies

I recall there was still too much pain

So I pull away from the cafe

In the rear-view.. I glance back

Just in time to see

You tip your Red Sox cap.

What... are you a NY Yankees fan?  (Just kiddin') I liked the wavering emotions found in your poem.  Very nice!

You captured a moment so well. I felt like I was sitting at the end of the bar watching the entire scene play out.

Good job, Sue~
