In the absence of sunlight
a near crippled oak
from its winter affliction

as a chorus of blackbirds rings
the branches with empathy

I heard that you died today
a garland of tumbleweeds
in a fragile embrace of you

the ashes' reminder
at your premature tribute

on a grey sunless Sunday

the bleached over oak
your soul taking flight again
the blackbirds' calligraphy

Very nicely put, Emma. To give the passing a finely tuned and beautiful calligraphy is deserving of an applause . . .

What absence more profound than sunlight, Emma. I am touched in a very special way.

It's been a while since I've been here, but it is good to return a find you here.

EmmaRose, the weather was in mourning with you on that/this bleak winter day.  You have the tears streaming down my face for you and for somebody I know nothing about, except his/her portrait in your poem and that you have given him/her a most precious tribute from the heart and I believe with all my heart that the warmth of your grief-raw sincerity and heart-breaking compassion reached the subject of your poem.  EmmaRose, when you put your paintbrush pen to its canvas, miracles are born.

The personification given to the oak in your poem is most stirring. I really enjoyed reading.
