Something fades
their flight
perhaps the batter
of the rain
and the subsequent chill
upon the sun's release

a bit of color
lost
collapsing
on their spiral
down

and autumn preps
to abdicate
with the offer
of her leaves
the sacrifice
of trees

between bereavement
and the promise
of next spring.
