There is a sweet wafting breeze
within rustling of emerald leaves;
golden flora along the riverbanks
a sweet fragrance they weave.
Invisible footprints of summer days
along the steps of eroted stones;
washed away with hands of time
memories the riverbanks own.

Children play while parents work
fishing and having fun;
making memories for themselves
laughing in the warmth of sun.
Fishing upon the river rocks
in reflections of a lazy stream,
are  innocent faces of children
and a catfish in their dreams,
Beneath the branches in the shade
listening to songs of the bluebird,
while the crickets serenade.
And as the children fall asleep
and like a cloud drift away;
twinkle... twinkle... little star
they dream about their day;

Images of laughing waters
sing a rippling lullaby,
within a honeysuckle breeze,
along the ancient riverbanks
eating blueberries 'neath the trees.

What a lovely and nostalgic piece of writing, Victoria. These two lines just captured, for me, the whole of the poem . . .
quote:
are  innocent faces of children
and a catfish in their dreams.

This is not the kind of poetry you usually post, but I am very happy you chose to include it today for our reading pleasure today.

Thank you Jerry...A photo of my son fishing on a riverbank when he was about ten inspired the poem. I am happy you enjoyed it.

Thanks for taking us back to a very pleasant moment in time.

Also, although I enjoyed so many of your lines, the ones that brought the biggest smile to my face were...

quote:
...in reflections of a lazy stream,
are  innocent faces of children
and a catfish in their dreams...

Thank you Bob...I appreciate your nice comments as always. Yes I have fond memories of my now grown son walking down the driveway with his fishing rod when he was a little boy. Of course now all the grandkids just want to be behind the computers...They don't get much exericse haa except for their brain.
