she flared my senses
standing alone just inside the door
a dream within a dream
of another time another place
concrete jungle some called it
New York City
she smiled her sentient smile
it broke my heart
I took Frankenstein steps
arms outstretched
wanting to embrace that which I'd throw away
too late realizing I loved her
after all
as I wrapped my arms around her
I embraced thin air
then . . .
I heard a sob
then . . .
words I'll carry to my grave
this is a dream
it isn't real
it never was real to you

The conscience, subliminal mind, wife, or, um, whatever it is sure has a no beating around the bush way of opening our eyes to the facts.  Enjoyed.
