I, alone among millions more like me
streets of New York City
staring into the faces of evil
those that were pinched with worry
self-doubt and insanity
after a while
I, too, knew what it was like to
worry which coincided with self-doubt
bordering on the timorous edge of
madness
I walked the high wire of obstinate resolve
looking down from that high wire
although I was told not to
but I was free and . . .
those were the days, my friend
we thought they'd never end*

Yeah, good piece, Jerry ... and "those were the days" ... I remember  Humperdinck's version ... and there was another but can't bring it to mind --- but not Hopkins, didn't really like her version,  I'm thinking of .... think it was male too.

Thanks, J, for dropping by and your input. I actually liked Hopkins version. I know Cream had a song out by the name of "Those Were The Days," but I don't think it was the same song. Again, much obliged for you presence here.

Okay, you and Jimmy are ganging up on me with Humperdinck's version. It took me three months giggling over his name before I could actually really listen to him. He was a great stylist, and I liked him very much. Have not the slightest idea what happened to him. Thanks, Victoria, appreciate the input . . .

I picked up on perhaps a wee bit of satire from this one.  Nice reflection.
