speeding life, fleeting youth
the imitation of a dream
we take when its time to take
we give when we must give
New Orleans
old cemeteries
tolling church bells
trying to sculpt its mayhem
a  not so silent quest
I burned with anger at life
which had chewed me up cruelly
and spat me out
a city like none other
I came to it pale
naked and transparent
it was
my world a la carte
I took a new lover and
the Big Easy was a tramp
she gave me
life as a masquerade
she was never motionless
never defined
she spoke to me
somewhat sinisterly
as the midnight sun boiled and baked
I heard shrieks of slaves
being auctioned off
I walked the streets toward nothingness
false pride
mistrusting everyone
except my constant daydreams
as anonymous dark
silently enshrouded me
I stood
on the edge of the world
innocence lost

Your words are as haunting as the past and places you write about. You bring the color and scents to life. As always, well done my dear friend.

What a picture you paint!  I was totally sucked into this one. Beautifully done.

You have given me the ultimate compliment, MorningStar, when you said, " I was totally sucked into this one." Thank you very much for that . . .

Hi, Karilea, thank you for your kind words about "Seduced by New Orleans." I was naive also the first time I hit that town (Senior Trip), but I wasn't for long.
