Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Armoured again
the weight of which
these battle weary bones
ache too old to sustain
this defense.
The battle ax
too heavy
to lift
let alone
swing high
over head
Gleaming sword
sheathed to hilt,
would now
steady worn warrior's
sway and faltering step
staggering under
chain maille's metal weave.
The time has come
by the time that's passed,
to battle no more.
I must bare my flesh
unprotected from
slinging barbs
and arrows.

When you've done what you can do to no avail, and weary is the body, nothing is left except take what is meted out to you.

Yes, that is true, but I must admit I was hoping to spend some time resting on my laurels.  Thanks Jerry

Nicely penned Lori...I enjoyed the old medieval theme and the surrendering unto thyself ending.

I think there comes a time when we are just battle weary, Lori. You said it so well.
