the age I am doesn't make me sad
as I run my fingers
through lightly sprinkled gray hair
it's almost midnight
except for me
The Hovel is empty
oh, my mutt is here, but sound asleep
from the west the rain they promised
began hours ago
I watch it through the window
cars speeding on the street
expect to hear a crash
I don't know why
but in these later years
I try to formulate the elixir
you know . . .
of the construction of life, happiness and . . .
ah . . . why bother
eradicating, disrepairing and collapsing
what has gone on before
with untrustworthy hindsight
oh, the rain has slacked
a man walking slowly comes into view
the sidewalk is slick, glistening
he stops; looks toward me
he can see me through the window bright
as I can see him
'neath the streetlight's strobe
abruptly he continues his journey
I'd not seen him before
I arise
step outside in the mist of the night
I look down the street
where he disappeared
he isn't there
but there's a back way to where I live
I meld into the dark and wait for him to appear
the man wore a cruel expression

Good morning, J, you know, it might have been, either that or acid flashback from the swinging sixties.

What does this man want, JP?
Could this man be you? Just some thoughts running
In my head, lol.
Cool write, JP.

Ah, the things we question and strive for answers, eh, Ms E. This man was real in my imagination. Was I seeing myself standing in that rain? If so, it would be a continuous trait I have written about over the years, that my demons are not really demons, they are merely me looking for salvation.

Thank you for your presence, Ms E . . .

Good poem and I could see it in that I too, at times, do things, like visit an old stomping ground, just to break away from the ordinary. :-) -Bob
