Amo! Sic ego sum (I love! Thus I am)

For I do love.
Though love, by step descends
through gates, along idyllic paths,
through grates, and catacombs —
Love ascends by love alone.
(Descartes aside)
Amo! Sic ego sum.
For I do love.
It is thus I am.

Descartes was the French philosopher who wrote in Latin, Cogito ergo sum which means I think therefore I am. Amo! Sic ego sum means I love, thus I am.
