~~~
The walls have started to move again
the elusive flicker
beyond my sight
I feel it
then almost see it
~
There's something behind me
Don't Look !
Dear God ... Make it Leave!
... what's that noise ... there it is again ...
.....................................................................
Oh man ...
~
This is happening too often
I need to get out
get off this computer
breathe fresh air ... and shout
~
I'll go for a walk
round the block with the dog
It's quarter to three
and the snow's thick as fog
~
I lean back and get set
as I open the gate
the dog drags me through
as if her sling shot could wait
~
My feet start to slide
as we round the first curve
Jump over two snow drifts
and dragged through the third
~
A neighborhood cat
steps out of the night
"dear God hear my prayer
get this cat out of sight "
~
A meow and a bark
drifting loud down the street
The leash I grip tight
as I'm pulled off my feet
~
Every dog within earshot
joins in the howl
and I'm dragged through a bush
before I throw in the towel
~
I lie there for ages
heart pounding with fright
I notice the snowflakes
drift by out of sight
~
They dance and they swirl
and they land on my nose
My feet are so cold
I can't wiggle my toes
~
Just then ... the snow ceases
the night sky ... opens bright
The stars ... how they glitter
my God what a sight
~
Big dipper ... Orion
they're all in the sky
Then up walks my dog
sticks her tongue in my eye
~
I spit and I sputter
then get up on one knee
As our neighborhood watch
started laughing at me
~
They help me brush off
chew the fat for a while
We exchange a few laughs
then head home with a smile
~
The dog had her walk
and I needed a rest
Now the walls are dead still
..... but .....
....... the floor .......
I feel like I just watched a Disney movie...one with Dean Jones and the Ugly Dachshound I think is the one that comes to mind.
A delightful tale and view of your breaking away from the impending walls. Great piece! Thanks for sharing.
Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
Yes the world is a different place now. I'm not into Facebook and twitter but it is nice to hear a voice once in a while instead of emails. I don't text either. This was a funny poem about the adventures of the outside world ha...Enjoyed Rex.
Haha! what a funny poem this turned out to be. I laughed at each part, trying my best not to stirr the others. Ah, what a perfect way to bring out the embarassing of moments with laughter. I was drawn in and felt as if I was being dragged...hmmm I might have. However, great poem, I might be laughing for awhile... but oh the stars are truly shining bright that night!! Have a wonderful day
Just so wonderful to read you once again.  A fun-filled walk it was too.
