             Alone

Beyond a pallid
winter sunset,
past the mystic twilight
of that uncertain hour,
empty, traceless shadows
walk these midnight
streets of discontent
  and broken promises
beneath a cold-indifferent
  moon,
scattering memories with
the ashes of burnt roses,
and chanting that saddest
  refrain
of all who have ever
loved ... and walked alone.

Taking the trauma of love lost and giving it a location applicable --
quote:
these midnight
streets of discontent

Perfect in every way, Bruce . . .

It is a perfect poem, Bruce.  Being alone myself I can certainly relate but, you know, it's just one of those little things in life that will pass sooner than we think.  Enjoyed!

Bruce,
You write "lonely" with so much yearning.  I love how you weave nature with your emotions.  This piece is beautiful.
