The sun is sinking in this land
We are being dealt a dead hand
The White House is where laws are set
By a wizard who's the real threat
Nothing is ever what it seems
The President has a grand scheme
It's all distorted by the press
From where I set it's a big mess
The greatest country in the world
A distant land is close at hand
You're not gonna like how it's planned
You'll find they will distort your mind
And what you thought is not what you'll find
And you will share the common view
It's all the same after the coup
Children spies for the government
On their parents lies they'll invent
America sings a new tune
And flies flag of a crescent moon

Good morning Jerry..."The future is this" Sounds like you have a crystal ball in front of you...I think I will buy one too. Where did you get it? ha

No crystal ball, and to me it is no laughing matter, Victoria. I'm merely observing history repeating itself. What is going on in this country happened in China and Russia and Italy and other smaller countries where totalitarianism took over the land, giving government complete control of the people. We aren't there, not yet, but we're inching closer and closer.

So no crystal ball, just observing. Thank you for stopping by.

I'm no expert but I think you are observing well, Jerry.  Sadly people generally are so caught up in their own little lives that they can't see what's happening right in front of them.  Then again why bother when it's all probably ordained anyway?  Meanwhile we watch and we wait.

I don't think anything is ordained, that's why I think we should "bother," Helen. Thank you for reading my poem . . .

Whether it is ordained or not I agree that we are going down a very dark road and watching a once great country disapear before our very eyes. No crystal ball required just some awareness and a little common sense.

Though I applaud your great sense of patriotism JerryPat, and your deep concern for the well being of this nation, I feel that using national symbolism ie the crescent moon within this piece could alienate poets and writers from other cultures, religions and ethnic backgrounds, especially in an open forum, after all with the Internet our writing is truly global. I do understand your motives and your conviction in this poem, it is heartfelt and sincere but again that last line maybe has closed more doors than it has opened. Take care OLIAS.

The crescent moon is very apropos in my opinion and contrary to closing doors, may even have opened some eyes, as so many have been blind to it's rising... on the spot write, my friend.

So far, I hope, OLIAS, that this is still a free country. Thank you for your concern.

My feeling exactly, J, I write what I feel. There are people on here who write what they feel and I don't like it, but I don't get my feelings hurt I just don't read them. Thanks, J.

Olias, I wasn't coming down on you. I just spoke what I felt. I understand your point of view, but I just disagree with it. We can agree or disagree and still remain friends, at least I hope we can.
