I brought her that day
with my bloody hands
onto a bloody set of socks
that dropped like the sand filled castles
as the sea came to mop them away

Why didn't you leave her that day
before the children sat in the world of chaos
where her little hands never stopped to
keep the car from turning that corner
and swerving towards her

She was so young
so quiet in the way her mouth moved
and I think she's panting a bit too hard
I think her neck might seem a bit pinched
and the purple on her cheeks
a bit too soft

Maybe its time
I lose a piece of this time
maybe the heart isn't
meant for a child's loss
but I have blood on my hand
and now its hard for me to see her

I can't seem to hug her,
I can't seem to find those
sweet cheeks to squeeze
until a little girls dangling legs from my lap
lost their ability to swing

On a fateful Saturday day
where she was lost
from the open sea
she was still with me

But she wasn't mad
she wasn't asking time to let her back in
but her heart told my set of eyes that
in order to live, you most forgive
and if I do,
If I give my head one more break
I'll say,
Father, I have lost her.

"in order to live you must forgive."
How true.
