I’ll never forget when we first met
your words we’re skipping across a field of frozen blueberries.
They were scuffling rows of thought in snow
with their mittens on and their expectations off.

The air was brisk and I stole a risk
when my fingers, said hello.
I just happened to be passing by your life
on my way to a town I hadn’t yet met.

Your heart was white and your letters, wore black
as the ice started swimming from the sun.
In so many ways things were different
it was so much cheaper to make you laugh.
Coining a phrase across a lake
which I couldn’t do today if I tried.

A dollar just doesn’t go as far
anymore.

I still recall when our eyes first touched,
your picture seemed to wink.
You then looked down, I think you were shy
I learned right then, about meant to be.
Well at least in reveries that I often shared
in clever little scraps of thought.
Deeply fond of the color your eyes sing to,
and the way the sides of your smile curl up to them.

We walked to a park somewhere in my mind
and fed the ducks, a bag full of two day old bread.
The pond was crystal and my thoughts were clear
and then we saw that place to sit down.
You sat on me, I sat on a bench, and the bench
just held us in its arms.
I held you, and you held me, and our lips they held
each other.

You crossed your legs on top of my knee as my backpack
dropped to the ground.
My heart opened up as my eyes began to close
and the sounds of the world
took a walk.

That was the day it all began, a decade, up and down.
I’m sorry for the times, I failed you, I never planned for that to be.
But here I am, naked and cold, and my time is turning hard.
I only hope I left more smiles, than I did leave frowns.

Life is pretty great how it turns sleep to reminisce,
or figures that are cast from molds of memory and care.

If I was ever frozen in a sculpture made of dreams I would pick that day
when life was much more than it seems.

Back when life was still unwritten trapped within that kiss
sitting there with that one person, I would truly miss.

You rendered "aliveness" magically with your unique poetic creativity.

Always a deep pleasure to read you, dear Richy.
