If you were an clean empty paper of white
Just waiting for life to begin
And I were the hand of a poet in love
With ink flowing out of my pen

I’d cross every “t” with a soft gentle stroke
And dot every “i” with a kiss
Then end every verse with a whisper of love
And tender caresses like this

I could say what I’m feeling, no fear of revealing
The secrets I hold in my heart
If you were a canvas about to be touched
By the magical genius of art

If you were my music and I were the strings
To be played with a passionate strum
Sliding down the frets of an old guitar
Leaving heartstrings and fingertips numb

I’d play the notes as they’ve never been played
And sing like the coo of a dove
If you were a clean empty paper of white
And I were a poet in love
