There comes a time
When all things lived
And all things known
Descend from the rafters
And settle comfortably
Into the silence of my room.
There is a time
When change is accepted
Just because it is valid,
And when life is valid
Just because it is so
And once in a while
The beauty of the dream
Causes us to live a moment
to its fullest measure

There was a time
When the dream was real
And love consumed
Every corner of my soul,
Disturbing my peace, forcing me
To grow in new directions and
Unimagined ways.
It was a subtle and natural force,
Like a summer breeze
That lifts willow branches into a dance
While commanding power
Over the tides of the sea,
Rising and falling
At moments least expected.

But now the time has come to
Put away dreams and to
Allow the river to seek its course
And the wind to blow where it may
So that I may sit in silence
While all things lived and all things known
Descend from the rafters
And bring peace, a perfect peace,
To this, my perfect morning

Liz, I saw this the day before yesterday, but it touched me too much to reply to it right off.  After the first read, I wanted to say, no, Liz, this is not the time, but with each of many reads more, I felt more and more, the beauty, tranquility, exquisite wisdom, dignity, bravery and self-made happiness (and, in my humble opinion, that is the best and strongest kind of happiness) in this, so that I can't but agree that what you say is as good and true and beautiful as the poet and the poem itself.  You were born a teacher and you will always be one, no matter what, as it is with all of us who have teaching in our blood.  I, too, at 67, am beginning not to feel like a 20-year old any more.

It is lovely to see you back.  I hope we are going to read more of your poetry again.

I appreciated your comments so much and was so comforted to know that my peace is understood.
Thank you for taking the time to respond in depth. This means more to me than you can know
Liz
